Grass Facts
- Grazed grass is the cheapest source of energy for livestock. Grass silage is 2.5 times the cost of grazed grass and compound feed is 3 times the cost of grazed grass.
- At least Eur 170/cow can be gained from higher milk yields, solids and reduced costs.
- Every day extra at grass is worth Euro 2.70/cow/day
- Feeding 3 kg meal/cow/day is adequate if you have enough grass
- Moorepark research has shown that grass variety differences are worth over euro 40 per cow by better winter growth, improved leaf production, less reheading and higher utilisation giving better milk yield.
