A well balanced forage mixture of peas and cereal can be sown in March and be ready for harvest in 12-14 weeks. The yield can often be 23-25 tonnes per ha fresh crop of high energy, high protein forage ideally suited to dairy cow or cattle finishing systems. They are also suitable for sowing when there is a shortage of spring fodder due to winter damage. Suitable for undersowing a new grass ley, drill at 50-65kgs per acre.Kale
Kale is a well proven fodder crop which consistently provides very high yields of succulent green fodder. One of the big advantages with kale is the crops flexible utilisation period which can stretch from August through to the following March. The crop has a high protein content and can be fed to all types of livestock.Maris Kestrel has become widely established as the leading kale variety and has performed very well in many out wintering demonstration sites. Its success is due to the fact that livestock can utilise the whole plant due to superior leaf to stem ratio, vigorous early growth and good resistance to lodging.
